The last week in May, Zach was not sleeping or eating well. This went on for a few days before several people noticed his stomach was kind of bulging out more than usual.
Jennifer decided to take Zach to the doctor on Monday morning, June 1st, 2009 to have him checked out. In her mind, he just had an upset stomach or a minor ailment.
Dr. Sultemeier, their local pediatrician in Wichita Falls felt they needed to do some x-rays. The x-rays came back showing something unusual. He ordered a CT scan and the results showed a mass. Jennifer was given the news at this point that it was serious. There was a tumor in Zack's stomach area that was 6" in size. The doctor at this point was 80% sure it was cancerous. Psalm 98:1 Sing a new song to the LORD, for he has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a mighty victory; his holy arm has shown his saving power. Last week was filled with Scans, doctors, test, and praises! First and fast out of the shoot was our MRI and chest x-ray to make sure Zach was still cancer free. He did fine during and after the test in recovery and we then headed over to the oncology clinic. Dr. Paul had a resident working with him last week and he came in right after we got there and said he had already looked at the scan and they all looked clear to him! What a relief! We went over Zach’s current issues with regards to his past treatments and Dr. Paul agreed to let us talk to a genetic counselor next time we…
